Britain’s so-called lobbying and cronyism row is anything but. It’s about fat cats, lean mean hunters, entitled purebreds, scruffy strays, trainable tabbies, rebellious rescues — in other words, all sorts of felines padding through the corridors of power.
Lobbying and cronyism is a feature, not a bug of British politics. The language being used is disingenuous. This is not like America. It’s America without any rules. This is not like Indian backhanders; it’s fronthanders in plain sight — over a “private drink” at the club.

Joe Biden’s plan for America is about the remaking of a whole concept. What constitutes infrastructure? Is it just bridges, airports, rail routes and highways? Or is it something else as well — a country’s human resources? The way people learn to think, to be change-ready, how healthy and happy they are?
The point about infrastructure is that it must be basic, functional and key. That includes, as Merriam-Webster dictionary says, “the resources (such as personnel, buildings, or equipment) required for an activity”.

There is a startling pattern to the stories told by women in public life. They generally include at least one wry account about being mistaken for the secretary. It happened to, among others, a British minister, and the UK and Ireland’s first female bishop. When European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen eventually writes her memoirs, she could add to the compendium on sexist preconceptions about who holds organisational power.

Sunday, April 11 marked one year of constant volunteering on my part. First, with the Council’s community hub, then with the Council and NHS’s Project Hope for medical staff, and finally, now, with vaccination clinics all around the area.
