I'm certainly not saying that Donald Trump would be restrained in his promised campaign of vengeance. In fact, it probably isn't a coincidence that Biden’s pardon for Hunter followed Trump’s announcement of Kash Patel as his next FBI director (Patel has repeatedly promised to jail all Trump’s foes, real or imagined).

That said, I do believe that President Biden has helped further weaken Americans' (and others') faith in justice and the rule of law. He has spent years telling Americans that no man is above the law. Now, he acts to protect his own son from threatened excesses, claiming Hunter had already been a victim of its wrongful use.

As he heads out, Joe Biden has robbed Democrats of the chance to occupy higher ground. There is much about which to despair.
