Why BoJo’s Dallas dinner with Trump didn’t make the NYT

A humbling omission for Boris and British politics?

As I headed to Texas from Arizona, so it seemed had Donald Trump.

And Boris Johnson, who has apparently already spent a week in the US. He joined Republican leaders in Dallas, Texas, to drum up support for arming Ukraine.

And yet, he had dinner with the orange guy, the one who has never committed to backing Ukraine in its desperate war of survival, 15 months after Russia’s invasion. The US ex-president is showing every sign of being serious about a comeback; Britain’s ex-PM has never stopped plotting one. Clearly, they must’ve had a lot to talk about but according to Mr Trump’s spokesman, the two men discussed a more anodyne subject than comeback bids. They focussed, the spokesman said, “the situation in Ukraine and the vital importance of Ukrainian victory”.

Really?

Anyway, Mr Trump hosted BoJo for dinner in Dallas, or so we learnt from Politico, but NOT (and this is important) from The New York Times (NYT). The NYT’s Alan Blinder, tweeted that news of the dinner of two exes didn’t actually make the cut for the writeup of his interview with Mr Trump.

As Politico noted, the omission is “somewhat humbling for both Bojo and, well, British politics in general”.
